CINDEX Database Integration and XML Syndication Case Study - London Borough of Camden

Overview

The London Borough of Camden covers an area of 22 square kilometres (2,180 hectares) of inner London, north of the West End and City of London. The Council provides services across the Borough to a diverse range of social and economic conditions and has consistently led the way with Internet initiatives.

BOCC has been working with the London Borough of Camden (LBC) since 2000. During this time BOCC has provided a variety of services to the Council, mainly drawing on our expertise in integrating with the Councils various back-office and legacy systems.

Objective

Camden required an intuitive online interface for the community information held within the internal Cindex database system housed at Camden.

Solution

BOCC created an XML data syndication system for Camden's community information database (CINDEX) developed by Talis. This allows integration of the CINDEX data with the Camden web services developed by BOCC.

A security model was developed and applied to restrict the syndication to Camden services.  Users can search the CINDEX database at the front-end of the site to find information regarding organisations and services provided in and around Camden.

Technologies

The system utilises:

  • Adobe® ColdFusion®
  • Secure replication of data from internal systems via a virtual private network (VPN)
  • Fully managed dedicated web server at BOCC
  • SSL (Secure Server Certificate)
  • Extensible HyperText Markup Language 1.0
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 2.0 compliant
