Objective

BOCC developed the new website aimed at ITF Seafarers in conjunction with the ITF Web team. 'ITF Seafarers Online' is an innovative online news, advice and support service. It is the only one of it's kind - 'one stop shop' for Seafarers anywhere in the world.

As part of the development of the web site, ITF wanted to include a Blog for use by Seafarers Inspectors to provide greater engagement on the site.

Solution

ITF Seafarers Online is maintained and managed using the BOCC CMS. The various new Web 2.0 features, including the Inspectors Blog were fully integrated with the CMS to provide a seamless experience for both website users and ITF administrators.

The Inspectors blog enables users to:

  • Collaborate on issues in active realtime space;
  • Post responses to blog articles and comment on postings;
  • Archive blog article and postings.

BOCC integrated FuseTalk's blog functionality with the new site and customised the overall look and feel to suit the web design and styles.

The blogs functionality can also be extended to the rest of the ITF main website and secure extranets by assigning a blog anywhere within the site.

Technologies

The system utilises:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005
  • Adobe® ColdFusion®
  • FuseTalk Blogs
  • Google Mini Search Appliance
  • Secure replication of data to internal systems via a virtual private network (VPN)
  • Hosting on a fully managed dedicated web server at BOCC
  • SSL (Secure Server Certificate)
  • Extensible HyperText Markup Language 1.0
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 2.0 compliant
