Background

BOCC sponsors two prizes for computing students at the Department of Computing at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England. The prizes aim to encourage excellence and the development and effective use of World Wide Web and computer systems techniques in project work.

BOCC Web Technology Awards 2008

BOCC is pleased to announce the award winners for 2008 for the BOCC Web Technology Awards are:

Prizes

The BOCC prizes are detailed below and students should contact the School of Technology for more information on how to apply for these awards for 2009.

BOCC Web Technology Bursary Award

BOCC provides two bursaries of £2,500 each to undergraduate students enrolled on BSc and MSc courses within the following four technical areas:

  • Business Information Technologies
  • Communication and Network Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Media Technologies

The awards, known as the BOCC Web Technology Bursaries, are open to all Oxford Brookes students enrolled on a relevant course, part-time as well as full-time and both Home / EU and International. A short-list of applicants are selected by the Department to make a presentation to a panel drawn from both Oxford Brookes University and BOCC. The criteria for selection focuses on the applicant's potential for achieving excellence on the course. The bursaries are paid in appropriate stages over the duration of the course, subject to satisfactory progress and continued enrolment.

BOCC Computer Systems Development Award

BOCC also sponsors the BOCC Computer Systems Development Award. This award aims to encourage the development and effective use of web and computer systems techniques in project work. The award is judged on the effective use of development techniques, as well as accessibility and security issues. Students also have to provide the details of which technologies they have employed in developing their applications and their reasons for making their choice.

Oxford Brookes University short-list students and then award the prize as appropriate. Prizes for the winning student will be presented this year at the graduation ceremony in September 2008.

BOCC was delighted to take part in the graduation celebrations on the 10th of September 2007. We were happy to show our support for the continuing success of Oxford Brookes University. This year the University sees the formation of a new department within the School of Technology that combines the Department of Computing and the Department of Electronics. The departments have joined forces to provide attractive new BSc and MSc courses in four areas - Business Informatics, Communication and Network Engineering, Computer Science, and Media Technology.
