User Surveys

NHS Employers are using BOCC's online surveys software to set up surveys on their redeveloped website. Rather than using other response methods, NHS Employers can now gather information directly online.

The completed survey data is collected automatically and can be exported in a variety of formats. Administrators can also quickly view a summary of responses as charts. Users can optionally receive a copy of their response when this option has been selected by the survey administrator.

The surveys can include a wide variety of form elements such as text, numbers, radio buttons and check boxes, pick lists and specialised matrix grids. User data validation is supported in the user-accessible web forms.

GIS and Back Office Data

On West Oxfordshire District Council's (WODC) extended and redesigned website, BOCC have put in place a dynamic, geospatial information system (GIS) driven local information system.

BOCC worked with WODC's information technology staff to provide a street and postcode search using a data extract from the National Land and Property Gazetteer and the National Street Gazetteer. By selecting a particular property, data from WODC's existing GIS are displayed online for any user of the website. This includes a map and recent aerial photograph.

Non-GIS data is also provided in the same single-page, seamlessly providing information to users from multiple back-office systems. This data includes council tax band, council tax charges, business rates and links to relevant online services.

NHS Employers

The NHS Confederation has re-developed and re-launched the NHS Employers website with the help of BOCC. The new site is driven by BOCC's content management system (CMS).

But it's much more than just a CMS website. A key aspect of the project was to link seamlessly with the existing members management system for:

• user registration
• restricted-access file downloads
• extranet areas

The administration system was also integrated with the internal network ActiveDirectory so that permissions are granted automatically to editors, reviewers and publishers as they log on to their workstations. The ActiveDirectory is also used to maintain contact details displayed on the web pages.

NHS Employers is the employers' organisation for the NHS in England, giving employers an independent voice on workforce matters and aims is to make the NHS an employer of excellence. NHS Confederation brings together all the organisations that make up the NHS across the UK and helps to deliver better health and healthcare.

Website Design

West Oxfordshire District Council asked BOCC to develop a new design for their dynamic interactive website. The brief required an appropriate, yet contemporary, design for the largely rural district and to cater for new online services.

The redevelopment team at West Oxfordshire worked with BOCC to write a design specification which was then used by BOCC's production and design staff to develop initial concepts. These were gradually worked up into final designs for approval by the Council's key stakeholders.

BOCC then converted the graphical design into a mock web page model so that linking and navigation could be examined in more detail. Designs for other key pages were also developed and tested in the same way. The web page code had to be created to the latest web accessibility standards. On approval, the design was applied to West Oxfordshire's content management system (CMS), provided by BOCC, and templates created for other third-party applications such as the planning system and modules that were developed as national projects.
