Visual Design Guide
A comprehensive visual design guide has been produced for the NHS Service Delivery and Organisation (SDO) R&D Programme's innovative electronic commissioning and appraisal system (eCAS).
BOCC's design staff created the detailed guide after discussing the requirements with staff and partner organisations. The guide includes specification on:
- colours
- fonts
- text styles
- page layout
- navigation
- forms
- accessibility
for web pages in screen and print media. Many design guides omit standards for websites and this document can now be used as a solid reference for future work.
BOCC is now working on the implementation phase of the project.
The SDO R&D Programme aims to produce and promote the use of research evidence about how the organisation and delivery of services can be improved to increase the quality of patient care, ensure better strategic outcomes and contribute to improved public health.

PCI Data Security Standard
BOCC has provided advice on the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard to a client who suspected one of their applications is not compliant.
The PCI Data Security Standard is increasingly forming part of binding agreements between e-commerce operators and their merchant banks or payment processing providers.
The London organisation had been made aware of a potential issue with one of their transactional websites that had been developed by a third party. They approached BOCC for an independent view and to produce a report on PCI compliance issues. BOCC identified a number of problems and provided a compliance implementation plan to reduce the risk of future additional charges and penalties from the payment card issuers such as Visa and MasterCard.
BOCC continues to provide periodic review of the client's e-commerce sites.
BOCC develops and provides advice on payment and e-commerce systems.

Historic GIS
West Oxfordshire District Council's acclaimed local information search, has been extended to provide access to historical mapping for 1883-1891 and 1914-1923.
BOCC developed the 'My West Oxfordshire' highly-accessible interface to WODC's Geospatial Information System (GIS) which provides a street and postcode search using a data extract from the National Land and Property Gazetteer and the National Street Gazetteer. Location-specific data is then drawn from the GIS and other databases to provide a single view of council and related services.
The data was enhanced by the display of a map centred on the selected property and an aerial photograph. Now, this has now been extended to display larger images of historical maps from additional overlays in the GIS.
