National Project Hosting

Screen capture or illustration of National Project Hosting

BOCC is providing dedicated web and database server hosting and support for the electronic Trading Standards National (e-TSN) system.

The e-government initiative to encourage the public sector to exploit new technologies included several national projects. These were designed to encourage joint working by Councils to develop products that can be adopted by develop others. The e-TSN project was developed with Council partners and the Trading Standards Institute (TSI), who now own and manage the system.

eTSN brings together:

  • sample data
  • complaint data
  • enforcement actions
  • publicly available data

into one shared resource with a set of standards and protocols which the partners can use to populate and syndicate data. Data is also syndicated to e-TSN from other systems developed by BOCC for TSI.

BOCC won the contract to host the Java-based system which uses web services to facilitate data sharing with all partner organisations.

UKOOA Sustainability

BOCC performs updates for many clients to content, as well as application development. This month, a new section was added to the UK Offshore Operator's Association (UKOOA) website.

This year's report on Sustainability Strategy Update and Progress Report in the UK Offshore Oil and Gas Industry titled "Striking a Balance 2006" has been added as web pages and also in Adobe Portable Document Formats (PDF). It details the industry's progress in developing and implementing a sustainability strategy and defines interactions with, and responsibilities to, society at large and articulates ideas of how to apply sustainability principles to business.

The web page version was created with text extracted from the PDF file, but all the charts had to be made up as web-optimised images. The completed microsite was tested for accessibility and for conformance to World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) coding standards.

UKOOA's Response to Energy Policy Review 2006 has also been published to this area of the website.

News Alerts

A website news alerts system, fully integrated with back-office systems, has been launched for the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF).

The ITF is an international federation of transport workers' unions comprising 624 unions representing 4,400,000 workers in 142 countries. The ITF's headquarters is located in London and it has offices in Nairobi, Ouagadougou, Tokyo, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Georgetown, Moscow and Brussels making information sharing very important.

The news alert system provides a mechanism to broadcast summaries or full text in either text or rich formats to users worldwide, in their preferred languages. The system also encompasses the previous extranet logins and all the user data is synchronised with the internal core database of contacts, providing a single view on all contact information.

The project was launched immediately prior to the ITF's annual Congress event currently being held in Durban, South Africa. As part of the launch, additional translations modules were also released to allow meeting reports to be published in all the languages supported by the multi-lingual content management system (CMS).
